What Are Prompt Weights?
Prompt weights let you control how much influence each word or phrase has on the generated image. By default, all tokens have a weight of 1.0. Increasing the weight makes that element more prominent, while decreasing it makes it less important.
This visual editor makes it easy to experiment with different weight combinations without manually writing the syntax.
Weight Syntax Guide
| Syntax | Effect | Platform |
|---|---|---|
| (word:1.3) | Increase weight to 1.3 | A1111, ComfyUI |
| (word:0.7) | Decrease weight to 0.7 | A1111, ComfyUI |
| ((word)) | ~1.21× weight | A1111 (each () = 1.1×) |
| [word] | ~0.9× weight | A1111 (each [] = 0.9×) |
| word::1.3 | Increase weight | Midjourney |
Pro Tip: Subtle Changes
Start with small weight adjustments (0.1-0.3 difference from 1.0). Extreme weights like 2.0 can cause artifacts. For fine control, weights between 0.8-1.3 usually give the best results.
Platform Differences
Not all platforms support the same weight syntax. Midjourney uses :: notation (word::1.3), while Stable Diffusion UIs typically use (word:1.3). DALL-E doesn't support explicit weights.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the maximum weight I can use?
Technically you can go higher than 2.0, but it's not recommended. Very high weights can cause visual artifacts, oversaturation, and distortions. Stay between 0.5-1.5 for most use cases.
Should I weight individual words or phrases?
Both work, but phrases often give better results because related words stay together. "red sports car" as a phrase will be more coherent than weighting "red," "sports," and "car" separately.
Do negative prompts support weights?
Yes! You can weight negative prompts too. This is useful when you want to strongly avoid certain elements while being more lenient about others.
